Market insight and packaging trends
We’re constantly scouring the marketplace for new consumer trends, end-user needs and technological advances, as well as keeping up to date with the latest regulations.
We seek out solutions where existing packaging no longer meets changing customer needs or where designs have become outdated. We use these insights to ensure that our product range includes the latest and most innovative product designs and packaging solutions.
Our trend and research experts also conduct bespoke market and packaging studies for our customers, helping them resolve packaging challenges or improve their current packaging performance and impact.
Perfecting packaging solutions
Cambrian Packaging has for many years supplied packaging to industry-leading manufacturers who demand nothing but the best.
That’s why, every year, we review our suppliers to make sure that their products meet the highest standards of quality and performance – ensuring that Cambrian Packaging customers have access to the best, most up-to-date range of certified packaging solutions available.
Development of bespoke designs and new packaging solutions
When standard supply arrangements or existing products don’t fit the bill, our product and packaging design service rolls into action.
We work alongside customers to identify design and packaging requirements and then we develop, perfect and deliver a truly bespoke solution. Sometimes this involves a simple modification to an existing product, but we also work with a wide range of leading partners to take things back to the drawing board to meet unique injection, blow or stretch moulding requirements.
Enhancing packaging performance - Fluorination
Cambrian Packaging provides a dependable service in packaging fluorination, applying the most advanced processes to achieve plastic containers that can withstand many aggressive substances.
Fluorination: an overview
Many solvents and aggressive chemicals have traditionally been packaged in expensive glass or metal containers due to the damage they cause to standard plastics.
What do aggressive substances do to standard plastic containers? Normal polyethylene containers cannot be used to contain some solvent based products due to the problem of permeation. Permeation is a chemical process whereby the substance attacks the surface of the plastic and then permeates the walls of the container, allowing it to escape into the atmosphere. This permeation can result in:
- Weight loss of product and potentially harmful emissions
- Formulation change and / or flavour or fragrance loss
- Container distortion and discolouration often termed 'paneling'
- Compromising label integrity
Fluorination is the treatment of polyethylene by flooding with fluorine gas. This 'plugs the gaps' in polyethylene's atomic structure, greatly increasing it's ability to resist aggressive liquid products. The benefits of fluorination are:
- Protection of plastic containers against solvent permeation and chemical attack.
- Reduction or elimination of product loss, odour emission and container deterioration.
- All-over protection to containers, inside and out.
- Fluorinated containers meet food industry regulations.
Solvents against which fluorination increases resistance:
- Carbon tetrachloride
- White spirit
Solvents against which fluorination has little effect:
- Methyl ethyl ketone
- Ethyl acetate
